Faiherbia Albida

Faidherbia Albida is known locally as msangu, or ‘the magic tree’, it is renowned for its resistance to drought, its nitrogen-fixing properties, and for protecting soil. It exhibits an extremely unusual ‘reverse phenology’, which means it holds its leaves in the hot, dry season, shading understory crops, and drops them in the rainy season, fertilizing the soil. Its timber is useful as a woodfuel.
